The first picture of the year comes from a black and white collection.  Well done, well composed, and of course, as we all think:  Why didn’t I think of this?  Well next time.  And this one is done so well in black and white too, right?   Enjoy this black and white masterpiece.

A memorable photo of 2016

A still photo taken on the set of Revenant, has to be the favorite photo of the year for me. Taken in natural light near Calgary, the fog, sunlight, the huge tree root and of course DiCaprio…captures my heart and soul. The ultimate photo by Emmanuel Lubezki!

Why would I post this photo as a winning photo?  Look at this photo closely, and are not your emotions touched?  This little sweet girl, you know is devouring this cup of milk.  Starving?  Poor?  This photo just tells a story in a very simple manner, and this is what photography is supposed

to do:  touch your emotions.  Great job Rausch Claude.

This photographer has become one of the world class photographers of the world.  Residing just on a beautiful beach of Portugal, he has been highlighted on this website before.  Amazing photographer who has learned the use of slow shutter speed, to make the water and sky just look so dreamy.  Here is his comments regarding this photo:

The Sub

“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, ‘It will be happier.” Alfred Lord Tennyson

My last visit to Campanario and to Calhau da Lapa. Trying to play with the shutter speed and keeping my attention on this beautiful rock in the foreground.

Hope you like it!

PORTRAIT OF THE WEEK:
Photo by:  Great Dane Chronicles and Andy Seliverstoff

Andy Seliverstoff is a professional photographer from St. Petersburg, Russia, who came up with an incredible idea to document tiny children with their gigantic dogs.

The concept started a few years ago when some of Seliverstoff’s friends asked him to take photos of their daughter, named Alice, in a park. They had their Great Dane, Sean, with them, so they decided to incorporate him into the photo, too.  And then the idea grew from there to include many other children with their big dogs as well.  Here is one of many of his great photos included in a book he has put together.  It is a beautiful portrait and it is certainly a winning photo.  He has even asked that his photos be shared on Facebook.

A lot of times when you see “Street Photography”, you usually see it in black and white.  Not all the time. But those photos classified as street photography done in color are amazing, and this one tells a great story.  Congratulations to Carina for capturing this lonely street photo.  Great lighting, great composition.  Just a winning photo.
Congratulations to the author Carina Norrgård selected from the Street Level Photography – Group :

THAT IS THIS WEEK’S WINNING PHOTOS.  NICE, RIGHT?  I LOVE COLLECTING THESE PHOTOS, AND THEN TELLING THE PHOTOGRAPHERS THAT THEY WON.  THAT IS THE FUN PART TOO.  CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PHOTOGRAPHERS.  NOW, AS PHOTOGRAPHERS, CAN WE LEARN SOMETHING FROM THESE PHOTOS?  LET’S GO OUT AND SEE IF WE CAN PUT YOUR PHOTOS HERE TOO.
