I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like to go to the beach, no matter what country you live in. But you know that there are good ways to make your photography look better as you take photos of the beach. Let’s help you with the common problems of beach photos and show you the good points to make your photos look better, along with showing a great photo gallery:
HORIZON LINE DOWN THE MIDDLE.
We have two great examples so far with today’s blog. Look at the very first photo at the top of the page. The horizon line (the line between sky and ground or ocean) is at the upper third of the photo, which is the correct way to do this. I hate to pick on the second photo, as lovely as it is, but the horizon line is right down the middle.
When you take a photo with a horizon, the line should be about 1/3 in the upper portion (like the photo at the top), or the bottom 1/3. Here is the thought process on this: Either the sky is what you want to show off in your photo, or the beautiful ocean with the waves. Notice how beautiful the ground, the beach is on the top photo. Perfectly done and it is much more pleasing. Could you stand not seeing all the beauties in the foreground? Nope, not me.
FIND SOMETHING TO PUT IN THE FOREGROUND, OR BACKGROUND.
The horizon line on this photo is close to middle, but not quite, so I will go with this as is, but what makes it more fun is to see the flock of birds that take your eye away from the horizon line anyway. Look for something you can put in the foreground, or background. A beach is not that pretty if you don’t have some kind of subject to take your eyes to. Here is some more examples:
