What do you think of when think of Colorado? I think that the whole state must be in the mountains. And to a point, it is. The state of Colorado is definitely home to great and beautiful mountains. However, as you have noticed on some of other posts, Utah, Montana are also home to the Rocky Mountains. But for some reason, Colorado gets the publicity of having some of the most beautiful mountains.

This blog is going to show some amazing scenery that Colorado has to offer, and it may get you excited to go to Colorado to see this in real life. Plus, some interesting facts about Colorado while we are at it.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT COLORADO:

“Colorado” is Spanish for “colored red,” referring to the reddish color of the Colorado River.

Colorado has the highest elevation of any U.S. state, including Alaska.

Colorado is the only state in America to turn down the Olympics.

Colorado boasts some of the most beautiful wildernesses and mountain ranges. Rich in Wild West stories and internationally known for its wildlife and outdoor activities, the state is also home to popular cities such as Denver that offer many museums and art for those who prefer cities to the outdoors.

 The capital city of Colorado is Denver, which also happens to be its most populous city. Denver is also known as the “Mile High City” because it sits at 5,280 feet above sea level—exactly one mile.

In the Western United States, a mountain peak with an elevation of at least 14,000 feet is known as “fourteeners” or “14ers” locally. There are 58 such fourteeners in Colorado – the most of any state (Alaska has 22; California has 12; Washington has 1).
