A complete gallery of portraits taken by professional photographers, who know how to correctly take portraits.
This is going to be a fun gallery today. I want everyone to just see portraits taken professionally rather than just snapshots of your favorite person. What does it take to do portraits right? Lighting is a key, posing is another key, learn to shoot vertically or horizontally, etc. During this gallery of portraits, I am going to post STEPS or rules to do portraits right. Enjoy the photos, and I hope you learn as well.
#1 – Portrait lighting:

Lighting in portraits is an art. But one thing I have learned and try to incorporate is to have lighting come from one side of the face and light to be a bit darker on the other side of the face. Look at this portrait above and notice the lighting. This just makes the person look even better. Listed below are some previous blogs about lighting I have done. Click on the link to learn more:

#2 Learn to pose your subject:

I am just going to give you some photos of great posing techniques used by the professional photographers.

IF YOU HAVE A BACKGROUND YOU MUST BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE DEPTH OF FIELD…. BLUR THE BACKGROUND BY CHANGING YOUR DEPTH OF FIELD.

HERE’S SOME GREAT EXAMPLES:

Note how nice the background is blurred out on the photo above. That is what controlling your aperture or depth of field can do for you.

Just remember the subject is the main subject. The background is not. Blur it out.
VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL?
The thoughts to this question are: if you take a photo of one person, it should be a vertical photo, to get rid of the extra space around them. When you get more that one person, do it horizontally.

See how beautifully this subject fills the frame.

This is one beautiful child. If you had gone vertical with this, and filled the frame, it would have even been more beautiful.

Oh yes, the perfect horizontal photo. A group of people in the frame.

FOCUS ON THE EYES.
The eyes are the soul of a person. Focus on the eyes and see how beautiful the photo is.
